Did you know Porthcawl Elvis Fest is the single largest Elvis gathering in Europe (arguably the world)? Visitors can expect loads of free events including over 100 shows from the Elvis Fringe Festival taking place around Porthcawl. The bonkers event has even broken numerous world records, including the record for 814 Elvises singing 'Hound Dog' together in 2012!

 

Find out who will be crowned this year's Best Elvis

Throughout the weekend Elvises from all over will be battling it out to become the Festival's Best King. You can watch the first heat onFriday 28th at 2.30pm,followed by the second heat and grand finale onSaturday 29th from noon.For more live music head to the iconic Grand Pavilion on Friday at 7.30pm to dance the night away with The Three Kings. Find out which Elvis will become the King on Saturday evening with the grand Elvies awards - the Oscars of the Elvis World!

Join the Usherettes in Hawaiian Paradise 

Join Porthcawl's fabulous Usherettes for a unique screening of Elvis' no.1 hit film, Blue Hawaii. Hosted by Kitsch n Sync comedy trio, The Usherettes, guests can expect plenty of entertaining surprises along the way! Take in the beauty of the Hawaiian islands, Oahu and Kauai while marvelling at the King, all ahead of Porthcawl's very own Elvis fest to begin the following day.

Put on your blue suede shoes for the win

Dogs, children and adults will all be invited to dress up like the King, with plenty of prizes for the best dressed to be won. Take on the Ty Hafan Fancy Dress Contest or join the Priscilla, Queen of The Promenade Parade in your best vintage dress. At Midday on the Saturday Elvies can also try their luck for the legendary Best Dressed Hound Dog event, where pooches will be judged on categories like Best Dressed Priscilla, Waggiest Tail and of course, the Best Dressed Hound Dog.

 

Run like the King

If you're up for a challenge, take on The Elvis Park Run - a 5km run, jog or crawl up to Rest Bay and back. Make sure you come fully clad in your royal attire, as the best dressed 'King' will receive an award. This run is free to enter but all Elvies should pre-register on the Porthcawl Park Run website.

Look up to the heavens with rooftop performances

Watch your favourite Elvis acts on this year's new rooftop stage. Performers will be gracing the roof of the Porthcawl Grand Pavilion, overlooking the family zone hosting loads of Elvis inspired events. Listen to finalists from Rhonnda Cynon Taff Does Elvis, contestants from this years' Best Festival Elvis, Darren 'Graceland' Jones, Reggae Elvis and even the best Tom Jones Tribute act in Wales!

The unique buildings opening their doors in Bridgend County this month

Ever wanted to learn the secrets behind Bridgend County's most intriguing buildings? Throughout September, some of our most historic spots will be offering first hand access to their ancient sites and unique stories. From Grade II listed buildings to Police Headquarters, here's all you need to know about Open Doors Month this September.

Discover the ancient spot St Cein settled

Spend a September weekend exploring St Cein's Church in Llangeinor. This Norman build was built on an early 6th century Christian heritage site where St Cein herself set up her cell. Learn about the journeys of the saint herself and how she at last came to the picturesque Llangeinor. To top it off, enjoy tasty refreshments and ancient stories from the church and surrounding area.

Experience life inside a Victorian Police Cell

Ever wanted to see inside the headquarters of a police station?This September, visitors are invited to delve deep into the basement of South Wales Police headquarters. Experience life in a Victorian police cell, complete with resident prisoner, and take a peek into an Edwardian charge room. You can even explore the newly re-opened Heritage Centre to get a first look behind the world of policing in South Wales.

21st - 22nd September. Each visit takes between 1 - 1.5 hours, booking required.

 

Learn about the tragic Parc Slip mining disaster of Tondu

Discover the tragic story of the Parc Slip mining disaster at the Wesley Church Centre, Tondu. The Tondu church will commemorate the tragic explosion of 1892, which saw 112 men and boys from the area die. Visitors will have the opportunity to unravel the events which took place that day, while learning all about the village of Tondu's industrial heritage. For some light refreshment, head to the Parc Slip Nature reserve nearby.

Unveil the unique history of Bridgend at St John's House

The oldest dwelling of its type in town, St John's House, will be unveiling a History of Bridgend at the end of the month. Feast your eyes on informative maps from long ago and gather unique information from the town. The Grade II listed building, which was built in around 1511, has been described by the Royal Commission as a high-status house and of great significance - come and see for yourself!
